Queenstown-NZ, Golf Tour with Lee and Peter Harrington, 7-14 MARCH 2009 ‘Everything under the sun for golfers.’ www.gogolfing.net.au On the back of international investment Queenstown has been quickly elevated to one of the most inspiring and exhilarating destinations in the world. Whether you fancy clifftop thrills, sunken valley sojourns or playing a round of golf by the feet of majestic mountains, Queenstown has it all. As a friend of The Golf School, Peter and Lee Harrington invite you to join them for a fun filled tour of Queenstown’s magnificent courses, acclaimed attractions and unrivalled visitor experiences. Hurry, tour numbers are strictly limited. itinerary Day 1: Saturday, 7 March 2009 On arrival in Queenstown you will be transferred to Rydges Lakeland Resort Queenstown. The scenic 10 minute drive into town will give you an appreciation of Queenstown’s pristine beauty. This evening we have a private welcome dinner at Rydges in the opulent Clancy’s room which has floor to ceiling glass windows that take advantage of the magnificent views. Our banquet menu has prawns, oysters and a variety of seasonal dishes, salads, vegetables, desserts, tea and coffee. Imported beers, spirits and fine wines included. www.rydges.com Day 2: Sunday, 8 March 2009 Following breakfast there is time for a leisurely walk to explore the town. Our golfing experience starts with a mid morning round at Millbrook Resort. Arguably New Zealand’s best known resort course, the Sir Bob Charles designed championship course has recently undergone significant upgrades and 28 new bunkers have been added. With another 9 holes due for completion in late 2008, Millbrook’s 27 hole complex is a desirable start to our golfing experience. www.millbrook.co.nz It would be remiss for you not to experience some of the adventure Queenstown is renowned for. This afternoon enjoy the adrenalin thrills of jetboating the Shotover Canyons with Shotover Jet followed by a scenic helicopter flight over Queenstown to The Remarkables Mountain Range, landing at 1538 metres. www.shotoverjet.co.nz + www.helicopter.co.nz We have negotiated a group discount rate of $220 for the Shotover/Heli combo. Day 3: Monday, 9 March 2009 This morning we travel out to the historic gold mining town of Arrowtown. Boutique shops and café’s line the streets and the mining museum is worth a look. Late morning we take to the fairways of Arrowtown Golf Club. While magnificent views await, you are more likely to remember your ball bouncing miles in the air off the boulders bordering some of the fairways. Arrowtown’s links with its goldmining past is highlighted in the names of some of its holes: Sons of Fortune and Golden Arrow, which border the once rich, goldbearing Arrow River. You have the evening to enjoy Queenstown’s dining experiences and entertainment. www.arrowtowngolf.co.nz
Day 4: Tuesday, 10 March 2009 Queenstown offers a plethora of adventure and leisure pursuits and today you can choose to do whatever you like. Golfing gluttons may opt to hit the fairways again. Your Go Golfing host will be on hand to make all bookings and arrangements for you. A day trip to Milford Sound, New Zealand’s #1 tourist attraction will be a popular choice. In Maori legend, the fiords were created not by rivers of ice, but by Tu Te Raki Whanoa, a godly figure who came wielding a magical adze and uttering incantations. Milford Sound is without doubt his finest sculpture. Whatever the fiord’s mood, teeming with rain or the sun glistening on deep water, it will inspire you. Travel from Queenstown to Milford Sound by coach before boarding a launch for two hours cruising on Milford Sound. Return to Queenstown by scenic flight which takes in magnificent views of the mountains, glaciers, lakes and forests of Fiordland National Park. Note: The Milford Sound full day tour is an optional extra. Please select on the booking form. www.milfordflights.co.nz Day 5: Wednesday, 11 March 2009 Today’s golfing experience takes us to New Zealand’s newest resort course sensation – Jacks Point. Not officially open for play until spring 2008, Jacks Point is already staking its claim as New Zealand’s best. Just 15 minutes from Queenstown, the championship course takes full advantage of its natural terrain. Shaped by glacial processes over millions of years, Jacks Point afforded designer John Darby the opportunity to sculpt a course through a varied high country landscape. With the Remarkables mountain range behind and alongside Lake Wakatipu, Jacks Point traverses through wetland to the lake edge encountering steep bluffs, indigenous vegetation and wildlife. Fairways follow the natural terrain and are lined by natural flora and complemented with ragged-edge bunkers. You will be forgiven for lapses in concentration as streams of skydivers gracefully descend in the neighbouring field. Located opposite the 18th green and alongside the village lakefront, the opulent clubhouse awaits with a gourmet BBQ lunch and fresh fruits. www.jackspoint.com Our afternoon visit to Gibbston Valley Winery is a unique experience for wine buffs and wine bluffs alike. We travel 76 metres underground into the Central Otago hillside for a wine tasting with a difference. Blasted out of solid schist rock, the innovative Gibbston Valley Wine Cave provides the perfect natural environment to mature their award-winning wines. We taste a selection of the finest New Zealand wines in the unique ambiance hat the Wine Cave provides. www.gvwines.co.nz
Day 6: Thursday, 12 March 2009 Today we have a morning round at Queenstown Golf Club, known locally as Kelvin Heights. The course is all but encircled by the deep blue waters of Lake Wakatipu and affords spectacular mountain views. This relatively short course with lush fairways and perfectly manicured greens set the course up for some good scoring. www.queenstowngolf.co.nz One of the first sights to captivate you in Queenstown will be the distinctive outline of the Skyline complex high above town. Reputed to be the steepest lift in the Southern Hemisphere, we travel by gondola high above Queenstown to the Skyline complex located on Bob's Peak. There is time to capture the panoramic views of Queenstown and The Remarkables before the fast-paced freedom on the Skyline Luge. Burn it up on the advanced track or cruise sedately down the 800m scenic track. Then hop on the chairlift and do it all again. You then have the evening at leisure. Day 7: Friday, 13 March 2009 Breakfast and day at leisure to see more of Queestown. There are a range of optional day tours to choose from. Before dinner we enjoy a Kiwi Haka show performed by Queenstown’s leading Kapa Haka group. Journey through the mythical legends and step into the world of Maori. Feel the spirit of their proud history celebrated in traditional song and dance. Experience the fearsome haka and the stunning poi display. Tonight we have a private dinner in the Skyline Restaurant as the sun sets over the township and The Remarkables. We enjoy a banquet of seafood and culinary delights made from the freshest local produce. Fine wines and all beverages are included. Prizes will be awarded to the golfing champions and a photographic highlights presentation will re-live the memories of an amazing week. We return to Queenstown on the gondola.
